Plus Size Blogger Discussion about Target

Plus size blogger Chastity Garner of Garner Style released an open letter to Target this week bashing the retailer after they announced their latest designer collaboration with Joseph Altuzzura would fail to provide options in plus sizes. Garner is calling for a full on boycott of the mass-retailer in response.

It started with Target announcing their upcoming collaboration with designer Joseph Altuzzura – all of which are only available up to a size 16. Garner, an avid fashionista, was excited to hear about the collection, but equally bothered to hear that none of the 50 pieces would be offer in anything in a plus size range. Garner says:
“This may seem a little dramatic, but the recent release of the photos of Altuzarra for Target collection has me feeling slighted. I’m up late, working as usual, and I see Refinery29 post 50 photos of the newest designer collaboration. Literally 50 pieces of beautiful (and I mean beautiful) affordable clothing and none of it will be remotely close to the size that I wear… To add insult to injury, over 6 months ago, you took most of your plus size clothing out of the store, promising me something new and improved and that has yet to happen. I’ve been in this abusive relationship with you for far too long. I can’t do this anymore. I will be personally boycotting Target altogether. No more housewares, grocery shopping, electronics…nothing. I’m done.”

Plus Size Blogger Chastity Garner launched an online boycott using the #BoycottingTarget and #AltuzarraForTarget tags and this week the boycott has taken off online. Many people have promised to spend their money at places like  plus size retailer Lane Bryant. A spokesperson from Target had this to say about the boycott and limited sizing options:

“We never want our guests to feel disappointed, and if we’ve let them down, we apologize. We’ll take this feedback into consideration as we move forward. In the meantime, we offer a variety of plus options. We’ll also be introducing a new plus line in the near future that features a focus on the latest styles, all at great prices”

It sounds like they are taking this into consideration, although we are curious to see if their next designer collaboration will feature additional sizing beyond a 16.
