Colorblocking is one of those trends that really is cyclical. It first became popular in the 1960s when fashion icons like Twiggy started playing with strategically placed color palettes in their ensembles. And before Twiggy, there were, of course, artists Mondrian and Rothko in the early 1900s. Most people are familiar with Mondrian’s abstract color fields. Designers started bringing back colorblocking in a major way on the Spring 2011 runways and for the last three years colorblocking has been everywhere.
There’s a lot of theorizing about the most flattering or successful ways to colorblock, but the most important thing is to have fun with it. Personally, I like it when garments do the work for me and include colorblocking as part of the design. So when I saw the IGIGI Evey Plus-Size Colorblock Dress in Black/Royal, I was drawn to the effortlessly chic look of the navy and black colorblocked design.
The 3/4 length sleeves and pockets make this dress comfortable, versatile, and practical.
