Colorblocking: A Plus-Size Dress Trend for All Seasons

Posted by on February 5, 2014

The colorblocking trend is still in full force and I am thrilled about it. Colorblocking is one of those trends that anyone can pull off easily and, if you pick colors that are subtle enough, you can wear colorblocked pieces well past their “prime” trendy season, because they can function as an alternate pattern style. Any trend or pattern that’s strong enough to wear from season to season is one that I can get behind.

I recently checked out the IGIGI Evey Plus-Size Colorblock Dress in Black/Royal (for more info, check out the blog post about plus-size colorblocking tips) and was really impressed with how IGIGI mastered the colorblocking trend with their garments, so when the IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec went on sale, I quickly snatched it up to capitalize off the similar look and the great price.

The asymmetrical cut of the dress is incredibly flattering and stretches across the body giving some instant slimming power to the waist and hips. The IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec has a pretty standard cut, which makes it perfect for the office since it has a higher neckline and a slightly longer hemline. However, the asymmetry and the colorblocking makes it trendy and flattering, giving it that special oomph factor while emphasizing your curves.

Carissima dress

The IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec is fully-lined like most IGIGI dresses, so you don’t have to worry about wearing a slip underneath.

The deep red wine color of the IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec is so gorgeous and would be perfect for Valentine’s Day! Not to mention, bold colors are a refreshing change from all the black we see on the streets during the gloomy winter months. However, this dress is not just limited to the winter season. The material is a poly/elastane blend, which has a lot of stretch and is very breathable, meaning it’ll be wearable year-round! (Even though the dress is very stretchy, it’s important to point out that it also has a zipper up the back, so while you could probably size it down one dress size, be wary of trying to size down too much.)

This dress could easily transition from Winter to Spring. Since it’s been quite snowy in Chicago, in case you could not tell from the photos, I chose to pair the IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec with thick black tights and high-heel, suede pumps in addition to a trusty denim jean jacket. Later, I put my giant puffer coat on over my outfit when I went out to dinner, but I can’t wait for the weather to get a little warmer here so I can stop factoring huge, bulky coats into all of my ensembles.

Carissima dress

The IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec has long sleeves and a hemline that drops just below the knee, so it is conservative enough for the office or a formal setting with family. However, the illusion of the black colorblocking gives it a subtle sexiness, since it shows off your curves.

When the weather finally warms up, I plan on accessorizing the IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec with a pair of black wedges and a black blazer for work, or some cute patent-leather sandals and bare legs for a sunny day off. Since the IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec has long sleeves, I would also wear it alone with just a pair of black flats and some shining silver cuff bracelets to continue the “blocking” trend in my accessories.

The pleating on the neckline is great for minimizing a large bust, and the thick black waistband on the IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec gives definition to the smallest part of your figure to create an hourglass shape.

How do you feel about the IGIGI Carissima Plus-Size Dress in Malbec? How would you accessorize it? What are your feelings on the colorblocking trend? Let me know in the comments.
