Get Ready for Spring 2020, New York Fashion Week Style

We know –fall is falling, and you’re probably thinking of impending snow, freezing rain and all

the turmoil – and wonder – that winter will soon bring. However, New York Fashion Week SS20

is upon us, and it’s spoiling us with dreamy spring and summer fashions we can’t ignore – even

if we can’t wear them just yet.

Not to worry; a gal can dream about her spring wardrobe as the snow piles up and she shivers in

her sweaters, right? And what better way to dream than to imagine fashions based on those

shown during the most influential weeks of fall when the spring/summer lines from designer powerhouses are unleashed to the public?

What is New York Fashion Week (NYFW)?

NYFW is the start of the designer collection premiers for each season. What begins in New York travels to London, then Milan, then Paris. Also, shows in Tokyo, Seoul and other cities appear to showcase up-and-coming design hubs. But NYFW always starts the ball rolling and features the

designers you’re probably most familiar with: Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Spade New

York, plus some you’ll love once you see their work, such as Christopher John Rogers, becoming

well known for his evening wear, Paris99, known for her playful gingham creations and Khaite , who was big on wallpaper prints in her collection.

NYFW lights up Manhattan with exciting fashion shows that take place not only on runways, but also in museums, garages, hotel ballrooms – anywhere a catwalk can be placed securely and music can blast. Parties, galas and celebrities abound. It’s fashion at its finest – and its loftiest.

At NYFW, designers present their ready-to-wear collections that set the trends for the season they’re premiering. Everything from clothing to footwear to handbags to sunglasses see the light and receive scrutinyfrom critics. Accolades or pans can make or break a designer not only for a season,but for a career. Designers thus put on shows to outdo other designers in an all-out competition for praise. But what’s most important is the fashion. Always the fashion. Our favorite trend so far is the print.

Prints Galore

This year, like last, prints are spot on. Pun intended. Everything from florals to polka dots to plaids to … well, you name it. And mixed media uses are arising from designers like Jason Wu , Acme and Proenza Schueler , to name just a few . If you’re not embracing your creativity to mix and match one print with another (or two or three), you’re not in the know. Even one print alone is a go. The polkadot is so graceful and understated and captures the mood of Spring/Summer 2020. In fact, it has many of the hallmarks you’ll see.

More Spring/Summer 20 Trends

Tea length skirts and dresses take the lead in this category. In addition, you’ll see lace adornments on many a garment, if not all out lace pieces themselves. Denim is still popular, with Rag and Bone – who staged a runway show for the first time in three years – going early 2000s style with waistless, super low-rise jeans. Gingham has a go, as does linen. V-necks and sleeveless styles stand out.
